Godafoss grounded in Norway

Friday, February 18, 2011

The Eimskip vessel, Godafoss, has run aground a few nautical miles off Fredrikstad, Norway. At this time the reasons for the grounding remain unclear.

Oil spill from the ship has been detected. However, an oil containment fence has been put in place to minimize the effect on the environment. At this moment the volume of oil, already spilled, remains unclear.

Representatives from marine salvage companies and the Norwegian coastguard and other specialists have arrived on the scene. The next steps will be chosen in a close cooperation with Norwegian authorities and marine salvaging specialists with an emphasis on the safety of the crew and salvaging personnel as well as the protection of the environment.

To the best of our knowledge, Godafoss' cargo has not been affected by the incident in any way. The owners of the cargo aboard Godafoss will be contacted as soon as we have further information.

Solutions regarding the maintenance of Eimskip's service schedule for Helsingborg, Aarhus and T├│rshavn is being looked at and we will update this information as soon as possible.
