The conclusion of the Authority of Consumers and Markets (ACM) in The Netherlands

Thursday, March 24, 2016

In light of the conclusion of the Authority of Consumers and Markets (ACM) in The Netherlands Eimskip wants to present the state the following facts.

ACM in The Netherlands has been investigating the Dutch coldstore market with special emphasis on fruit juices, vegetables, fish and meat for the period of 2006-2009. A Dutch holding company, owned by A1988 hf. was the owner of the coldstore company Daalimpex B.V. for the period from January 2007 until February 2009. Following the financial restructuring of A1988 hf. in September 2009 the Dutch holding company became a part of the Eimskipafélag Íslands hf.

ACM in The Netherlands has now concluded that behavior on this market was not in accordance with competition laws during the period of 2006-2009. Due to the ownership of Daalimpex B.V. during the period of 2007 to 2009 or until the company went bankrupt, has the Dutch holding company been fined. As explained in a press release at 25 February 2016 in relation to the Financial Statements for the year 2015 the company informed that it has accrued EUR 900 thousand as expenses related to this case.

Because Eimskipafélag Íslands hf. has no involvement towards Daalimpex B.V. and no employees of Eimskipafélag Íslands hf. are part of this case, has the Dutch holding company decided to appeal the decision of the ACM.
