Eimskip's terms for personal effects' transport, see below, must be agreed upon before an offer can be requested
- All general shipping terms apply for transport of personal cargo and personal cargo automobiles. Shipping terms can be found here
- Payments for transport has to be made before the vessel's departure from the port of loading. If the payment has not been made, the cargo is not loaded onto the vessel.
- The cargo must be delivered to Eimskip before the stated final times for each country, found on Eimskip's website and in information regarding transport. If cargo is delivered after stated hours, it may be transported with the next departing vessel, if payment has been made and paperwork done.
- In the case of full containers, a seal must be made by authorised party. Non-sealed containers are not received by Eimskip in Reykjavik.
- All personal items must be insured. An insurance fee is paid along with the transport fees, 0,9% of the cargo's value + transport fees, with a minimum of ISK 5.000 and own risk of ISK 10.000.
- Unpacked cargo is not received. If personal belongings do not fulfil the requirements for packing suitable for transport by sea, Eimskip can refuse to transport cargo due to danger of damage. Carriage of personal items is never included in prices and in no cases are drivers obligated to carry items to or from trucks, not in Iceland or abroad.
- All timings in land transport are estimates, and subject to changes. The cargo's owner is responsible for arranging that trucks are able to access points of pick-up. If a driver assesses the situation so that danger to equipment is possible, all possible costs fall on cargo's owner.
- Loading and unloading from trucks varies between countries, but the standard is 1 to 2 hours. If loading or unloading takes a longer time than included in the transport, then waiting time is calculated and charged accordingly. Please note that usually, trucks are not equipped with a lift outside of Iceland.
- Timings of land transport is difficult to pin point, so all given timings are estimates.
- Container rentals are calculated 8 days after cargo arrived in the country of destination. Storage fees are calculated as of the 4th day from arrival.
- Customs handling varies between countries, and can take time. Customs clearing is on the owner's responsibility.
- It is the owner's responsibility to follow vessels' arrival in the port of destination and to contact Eimskip's offices to take the final steps in the process.
- Automobiles are never allowed as personal items. If done, neither the personal belongings nor the automobile are insured.
- It is important to read the guidelines on www.eimskip.com and give yourself plenty of time to organize the transport.
