How many pallets can be fit into a dry cargo container?
24 Euro pallets and 22 ISO pallets.
What is a temperature-controlled container?
A container for transporting cargo that requires carriage under controlled temperature, e.g. -24°C, 4°C or 0°C, depending on the customer’s request.
What is an ATA Carnet?
The ATA Carnet is an international customs document that permits duty-free and tax-free temporary import and export of commercial samples and promotional goods.
Are refrigerator containers used only for frozen foodstuffs?
A more accurate term would be temperature-controlled containers rather than refrigerator containers. The reason is that, sometimes, e.g. during wintertime, it can be necessary to transport foodstuffs and other cargo that needs to be prevented from freezing at a stable temperature throughout the voyage, e.g. at room temperature.
How do I pay for the freight?
Eimskip issues it's bills directly to the customers' internet-bank and via regular mail. The latter can be paid at all banks and savings-banks. If you want Eimskip to transport the cargo to your location, we recommend that you call Customer Services (+354 525 7800) to request our cashier to book the trucking. Our cashier will provide the correct amount payable to our bank account.
Can clients have their goods distributed directly from the Warehouse Hotel to their customers?
Yes, we distribute goods all around the Reykjavík area and to other parts of Iceland on request by our clients.
How many Euro pallets can be fit into a 20-foot container?
You can fit 11 Euro pallets on the floor of a 20-foot container.
How many container sizes are there?
There are 2 sizes, 20-foot and 40-foot. Also, there are platform containers, half-high containers, tank containers, etc.
What is a bill of lading?
A document that establishes the terms of a contract between the shipper (consignor) and the transport company under which freight is to be shipped. It serves as a document of title, contract of carriage and a receipt for goods. The freight can be delivered only on presentation of a bill of lading.

24 pallets.
How many Euro pallets (0.8m x 1.2m) can be fit into a 40-foot temperature-controlled container?
23 pallets.
What information do I need to be able to request a price quotation?
The size of the shipment (Length x Width x Height), its total weight, the number of pallets and an accurate and sufficiently detailed address (at least the postal code and city), the International Commercial Terms (FOB, FAS, EXW etc.), what kind of product is being shipped, etc.
When are storage fees levied on shipments?
All shipments can be stored at Eimskip’s storage facilities for 4 days following the ship’s arrival in Iceland without incurring a storage fee. Please contact Customer Services (+354 525 7800) for details of storage fee amounts.
