General Service Terms of the Federation of Trade & Services

The Transport Sector of the Federation of Trade & Services (SVTH) was founded in 2006 to look after issues connected to all kinds of transport of cargo, by sea, by air, over land, express transport etc.  The Transport Sector took over e.g. the tasks of the Icelandic Shipowners’ Association (SIK), which was founded in 1983 by companies which then were engaged in sea transport in Iceland.

On 1 January 2003 the General Service Terms of SIK entered into force. These applied to all services and work undertaken by the member companies of SIK, with the exception of carriage of cargo by sea and by combined transport, which are subject to applicable terms and conditions. The Icelandic Competition Authority confirmed these Service Terms on 13 March 2003 with their decision No. 10/2003.

In March 2006 the General Service Terms of SIK were adopted by the Transport Sector of SVTH. 

Therefore, The General Service Terms of SVTH set forth the juridical position of the customers of Eimskipafélag Íslands ehf. as against the company in relation to all services and work undertaken by Eimskipafélag Íslands ehf. and which do not fall under the terms and conditions for carriage of cargo from port to port or by combined transport, which can be found on the company`s shipping documents and on this Internet site, or other conditions which may be applicable in each instance.
