Eimskip adds fourth vessel to the North America route

Eimskip has chartered a vessel, Star Comet, which enables the Company to add the fourth vessel on the North America route in November to meet continued strong demand West-bound. The Company currently operates three vessels on the route, two 900 teus and one 700 teus, on a weekly service. The fourth vessel, which is 700 teus, will be added to the service mid-November and the schedule setup is that both 700 teus vessels will sail in the same week with departure from Reykjavik on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Vilhelm Már Þorsteinsson, CEO Eimskip:
“We are pleased to be able to meet the strong demand we have as a niche carrier for transportation to North America by adding a fourth vessel to the route. The adjustments we made to our sailing system last year where we shortened the transit time from Faroe Island and Iceland to North America have turned out to be successful and opened new opportunities e.g. for transportation of fresh salmon in a more environmentally friendly way compared to airfreight solutions. Offering green solutions is very much in line with our commitment to environmental matters. With our reliable sailing system this service continues to be a great option for Eimskip’s customers transporting dry, frozen and chilled commodities.”

In the beginning of this week there was a main engine breakdown in the vessel EF Ava. The estimated time for the repair is about two weeks. The new charter vessel, Star Comet, is already in Eimskip’s service and will enable the Company to maintain it’s sailing service with minor adjustments until EF Ava is back in service.
