Eimskip Invests in Three Reefer Vessels

Thursday, March 1, 2012

Eimskip has acquired three reefer vessels, which were built in Aarhus, Denmark. The company has been chartering them since 2005.

The three vessels have played a key role in Eimskip's reefer services, especially in transporting frozen seafood products in the North Atlantic.

With this investment, Eimskip further strengthens the services  and reliability  of its North Atlantic liner system, particularly its current position in the Norwegian market.

Eimskip has assumed operation of the three vessels referred to as The Ice Sisters, since the ships are sister vessels. Individually the vessel are Ice Bird, Ice Crystal and Ice Star.

The vessels primary operations have been in Norway, providing transport services to the Baltics and Russia. They have also been active in transporting frozen seafood products from Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Newfoundland, which is Eimskip's main market areas.

Each vessel is 3,625 gross tonnage and measures 93 meters in length and 16 meters in width. They are especially efficient to operate compared with other reefer vessels on the market, considering they have been outfitted as side-door reefer vessels, which expedites loading times and ensures better handling of cargo, equipped with cranes, three loading decks, cargo elevators and forklifts.

Eimskip operates 18 vessels, 12 of which are owned by the company after this investment.
